A litigation lawyer in private practice since 1980, George Way of Plean was appointed Sheriff of Dundee in 2009. He holds the Queen’s Golden and Platinum Jubilee medals and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland. He was educated at the Universities of Edinburgh and Oxford. He is an Officer of the Most Venerable Order of St John and in July 2021 was appointed the Genealogist of the Scottish Priory.  He sits on the Scottish Civil Justice Council and is a Past President of the Society of Solicitors in the Supreme Courts. From 1985 – 2003 he was Secretary to the Standing Council of Scottish Chiefs, retiring to take up the post of Procurator Fiscal to the Lyon Court which he held until 2009.  He was appointed Falkland Pursuivant Extraordinary and in 2017, Carrick Pursuivant in Ordinary. His published works include the Scottish Clan and Family Encyclopaedia (3Rd Edition 2017) and Homelands of the Clans.
